golden throne-carter91 5

From A Secret Voyage by Zahi Hawass and Sandro Vannini

Detail of the Golden Throne, from the Funerary Equipment of Tutankhamun – New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty - From Western Thebes, Valley of the Kings, Tomb 62 – (Carter 91), Cairo, Egyptian Museum - It is difficult to identify which one is the masterpiece of the tomb given that all the pieces are very high-quality works of art. This detail of the throne represents the King seated and the Queen in front of him. When Carter found the throne, he noticed immediately signs of ancient repair. It is also clear that the ancient artist replaced the word "atun" with the word "amun" in some of the cartouches.
