Many people make the mistake of thinking that dreams cannot come true, but they can. You have to believe, and know that they are more than just imagination.

Zahi Hawass Prize in the Dominican Republic
Zahi Hawass Prize in the Dominican Republic

When I visited the Dominican Republic in November, the First Lady Margarita Fernandez invited me to give a talk at one of her favorite schools in the capital city of Santo Domingo. After my talk, I found out that there would be a Zahi Hawass Prize awarded to the best boy or girl in the school. Recently they had a book fair at the school and the First Lady made a booth about this prize. It was decorated with posters of my photographs, my work and excavations, and some of my books. At the fair she announced the beginning of the contest for the Zahi Hawass Prize in the Dominican. I am very happy to see this, and to encourage young people to come to Egypt and learn about our history. I am thankful to the First Lady and the Dominican Republic's Mission in Egypt for their mutual cooperation and support. (Photo: Kathleen Martinez)
