The Citadel of Qaitbey, or Fort Qaitbey, is located on the site of one of the ancient wonders of the world: the Lighthouse of Alexandria. In fact, pieces of the lighthouse were used during the construction of Fort Qaitbey in the 1480's. The fort is located on the Eastern Harbor of Alexandria, which is littered with archaeological treasures, including pieces of Cleopatra's palace. For this reason, the SCA is working to build an underwater archaeological museum that will allow visitors to see these submerged artifacts. (Photo: Meghan E. Strong)
