People often ask me, ‘well, it’s not really as exciting as Indiana Jones, now is it?’
I reply, ‘to an archaeologist, yes, it certainly is!’

Dr. Hawass with the Lack Family

I had the opportunity to meet the Lack family last night. They are friends of my dear friend Tim Collins, who is a businessman in Cairo. I will never forget the first time Tim came to meet me at my office at 9 am, and by accident he heard from my assistant Maggie about the Chair of Egyptology that I am trying to establish at the American University in Cairo. Right away Tim donated money.

When his friends the Lack family came to Cairo, I invited them to dinner. Andy Lack came with his wife, Betsy, and his sons, Sam and Andy. Andy Lack is CEO of Bloomberg’s multimedia group and former President of NBC. Henry Dormann also attended, who is chairman and editor in chief of the Leaders Magazine in New York.
I had a wonderful dinner with this family. Sam Lack is an incredible boy, he knows a lot about antiquities and told me he reads my website. He loves mummies, and we also talked about the pyramids of Snefru. He is a wonderful boy, I gave him as a gift a replica from the SCA of the famous ancient Egyptian blue hippo, and I gave his older brother Andy my book, “Secrets from the Sand,” and to Andy and Betsy I gave my recent book “Life in Paradise: Lost Tombs of Thebes.” The dinner was in the Gold Room at the Manial Palace, which is a beautiful place.

I also arranged for the family to go see my excavations at Giza, and to go Saqqara to see the new pyramid we just discovered, and also the tomb of Nefer, so that Sam can see the oldest private mummy in Egypt.
