Aerial view of the pyramid of Amenemhat III at Dashur. Called the Black Pyramid because of its dark color, it was built in the Middle Kingdom, and the interior contains a complex system of tunnels and chambers. Due to the removal of the outer limestone casing, the pyramid has fallen into ruin. (Photo: SCA)
