A boundary stela at Amarna, depicting the pharaoh Akhenaten and his wife Nefertiti worshiping the Aten sun disk. Amarna was the capital founded by the pharaoh Akhenaten in the 18th Dynasty. There were originally 15 boundary stelae marking the limits of the city, which contained inscriptions of proclamations of the king. These stelae are an important source of information about this short-lived city and its place in this enigmatic part of Egyptian history. (Photo: Ken Garrett)
