Hawass entered Alexandria University at the age of fifteen and a half intending to study law, but soon realized that he had little interest in pursuing a legal career. He transferred to the Faculty of Archaeology, graduating at the age of nineteen with a bachelor's degree in Greek and Roman archaeology.
