Press Release - King Tut's Chariot travels to New York

 Mr. Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture, made a major announcement today that one of King Tutankhamun’s chariots would travel to New York City. This is the first time that a chariot from the tomb of Tutankhamun will be allowed out of Egypt. The High Council of Culture decided to sent the chariot to be part of the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit at the Discovery Times Square Exposition. Dr.

I’ve just returned from New York where I was on a publicity tour for Chasing Mummies, my new show on the History Channel. My first interview was for the Today Show with Matt Lauer. It was very nice to see him and Ann Curry, who has been a friend of mine since she came to visit Cairo a few years ago.

Recent excavations and restoration in Beni Suef

As part of the Ministry of Culture’s initiative to refurbish and develop museums around Egypt, the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) is reorganizing the layout of the Beni-Suef museum in Upper Egypt.

SCA Annual Egyptology Symposium

Every year I arrange a meeting for all the archaeologists working for the SCA. The meeting takes place at the office in Zamalek over a two day period. At this meeting, everyone who managed a project over the previous year is invited to give a presentation of their work. The topics range from archaeological excavation, conservation and restoration work and site management. All the presentations from this meeting are published in Arabic for use in future research.

Recipient of CBU/CIC Special Award

I was recently honored by Cape Breton University/Canadian International College at their Convocation for the Class of 2010. It was a beautiful event hosted at the Fairmont Towers in Cairo. Dr. Ken MacLeod, Ph.D. the Director of International Programs and Partnerships at Cape Breton University, and I were recipients of the CBU Special Award for our dedication to ours careers and our service as role models in our fields.

Two rock-hewn painted tombs considered as two of the most distinguished tombs ever found from the Old Kingdom were discovered last week at Saqqara necropolis.

Opening of Tutankhamun exhibit in Denver

I returned this week from opening the exhibit: Tutankhamun the Golden King and the Great Pharaohs at the Denver Art Museum in Colorado. This exhibition contains fifty pieces from Tutankhamun’s tomb, including a pair of his golden sandals and a canopic jar. In addition to items from king Tut’s tomb, objects from some of Egypt’s greatest rulers are on display.  

Press Release- Tunnel in Seti I Tomb

The Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni, announced that a tunnel in the tomb of King Seti I (1314-1304 BC) has been discovered by Dr. Zahi Hawass and his team in the Valley of the Kings. They’ve been searching for this tunnel for over twenty years in the West Bank necropolis.
