People often ask me, ‘well, it’s not really as exciting as Indiana Jones, now is it?’
I reply, ‘to an archaeologist, yes, it certainly is!’

Welcome to my Website!

I am so happy to introduce my new website to everyone! It has gone online at an exciting time in my life as an archaeologist - I am working on many exciting projects, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to share them with you.

I am currently leading the first ever all-Egyptian team to excavate in the Valley of the Kings. I am also heading the Egyptian Mummy Project, an initiative which is using state-of-the-art forensic technology to investigate the lives and deaths of ancient Egyptians - our current research is focused on revealing the family of King Tutankhamun. I am hoping to make further progress this year in my work to answer the riddle of what is behind the hidden doors inside the narrow shafts in the Great Pyramid, and I am sure that many other surprises are in store for us beneath the sands of Egypt!

Through my website, you will be able to live my adventures with me. You will follow me into the field through my diary and photoblog, and learn about Egyptology through my articles. I am so happy that everyone can now experience Egypt by joining me online. Even the time that I spend in my office in Cairo is full of adventure, as I meet with fascinating people and work with my colleagues in Egypt and around the world to protect the incomparable heritage of thousands of years of civilization.

I hope that you will visit often for the latest news about my discoveries and my work for Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities. You can also find out about the books and articles that I publish, and find out when I will be giving a lecture near you! I invite you now to read and see for yourself the magic...the mystery...and the adventure of archaeology
