I was deeply honored to receive the prestigious “Order of the Sun” award from the people of Peru. It truly was a memorable occasion and one I shall always treasure.
Over time, the cultural heritage of Peru has suffered great losses, with many archaeological sites plundered and antiquities stolen. It is, unfortunately, the same in so many other countries around the world. The recent news that Peru will reclaim thousands of objects from Yale University in the U.S is a sign of progress and a reward for years of hard work.
The Second Conference on International Cooperation for the Protection and Repatriation of Cultural Heritage in Lima, Peru, comes to an end tonight. It has been an important opportunity for countries to meet and share advice and experiences on how to protect cultural heritage.
